After cryptic tweets and endless fan outcry, Ubisoft’s cult classic beat-em-up, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game is rocking its sweet return on modern consoles with the complete edition.
Announced on Sept 10th during Ubisoft’s”Ubisoft Forward 2020″ showcase, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game-Complete Edition is a re-release that bundles the original beat-up game and its add-on DLC which includes Scott’s roommate, Wallace Wells, and his ninja schoolgirl ex-girlfriend, Knives Chau.
If players want to take a little break from the main game, the complete collection also includes “subspace minigames, dodgeball, and PvP battle” to enjoy.
Below is an official description of the game from Ubisoft’s news site :
Based on the 2010 “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” movie and the graphic novels that inspired it, the game follows Scott (and friends) in a battle against the League of Seven Evil Exes, who stand between Scott and Ramona’s love. Up to four players can join in locally or online for drop-in, drop-out action as Scott, Ramona Flowers, Stephen Stills, Kim Pine, Knives Chau, and Wallace Wells, all of whom can level up and earn devastating new moves as they progress through the game.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game originally launched on Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in August 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively.
In December 2014, the game was delisted from both PSN and XBLA, likely due to licensing reasons.
While the game was met with mixed to positive reviews, players and critics alike praised the game for the soundtrack provided by chiptune rock band Anamanaguchi, chaotically fun gameplay, and overall charm that brought the game into life thanks to Australian pixel artist Paul Robertson’s sprite animations.
Like its 2010 film counterpart, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game became a beloved cult-classic over the years.
Unlike the film or the graphic novel series, however, fans of the game weren’t able to revisit the title unless they owned the game before its delisting or played it via emulation.
Of course, with the complete edition on its way, now everyone will finally be able to play (or even replay) this sleeper gem once again.
Regarding the news to the re-release, fans of the Scott Pilgrim game, movie, and graphic novels are beyond excited for the game’s return.
(Even Series Creator Bryan Lee’O Malley is excited!)
