With E3 being cancelled and Nintendo seemingly postponing a June Nintendo Direct, Nintendo shadow dropped a trailer for Paper Mario: The Origami King, the sixth installment in the Paper Mario series.
In this game, Mario appears to be teaming up with a crumbled Bowser and his minions, alongside a new companion, Olivia, to defeat Olley, the titular Origami King. The promotional image suggests partners may return after being absent for the past two games, but how they will be incorporated into gameplay is unclear.
The aesthetics appear similar to the previous game, Paper Mario Color Splash, although with more folded paper and less paint. Battles feature a new system involving turning a ring to align enemies in a straight path, but it’s unknown whether or not the one-use inventory will return from Sticker Star/Color Splash, or proper level-ups from the first three games.
With an upcoming release date so soon, we’re sure to get more information on the game before too long. Paper Mario The Origami King is set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch on July 17, 2020.
