After more than a 20-year absence, the cult classic Pokémon Snap snaps back into reality with a whole new game on the Nintendo Switch.
Announced during The Pokémon Company’s 6/17/2020 “Pokémon Presents” Livestream, New Pokémon Snap is described as “an all-new adventure for Nintendo Switch that’s inspired by the classic Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Snap” and will allow players to “explore deserts, jungles, and more as [they] photograph fan-favorite Pokémon and discover never-before-seen Pokémon expressions and behaviors.”
Released in 1999 in Japan and North America (2000 in PAL regions) on Nintendo 64, Pokémon Snap was a hybrid first-person rails shooter/photography game in which players would take pictures of various Pokémon in their respective environments.
While it’s not as celebrated as other N64 games such as Super Mario 64 or Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the game received a great amount of praise to warrant a re-release on the Nintendo Wii and Wii U’s Virtual Console back in 2007 and 2016 respectively.
