Drink some mint julep and celebrate like it’s the politically correct Snowflake Day because Clone High is coming back!
On July 2nd, 2020, MTV Studios announced directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller, known for their work on Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and The Lego Movie, are reuniting with writer/producer Bill Lawrence, to reboot their short-lived Clone High series.
President of ViacomCBS Entertainment, Chris McCarthy, said in a statement that “we’re thrilled to reunite with Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Bill Lawrence to re-imagine this cult classic as we rapidly grow our portfolio of beloved and iconic adult animation series“.
Onboard the reboot is writer Erica Rivinoja, who not only wrote on the original Clone High but will “serve as the showrunner and will co-write the pilot with Lord and Miller“.
Originally aired in 2002 on MTV (US) and Teletoon (Canada), Clone High followed the misadventures of teenage clones of historical figures as they navigate the ups and downs of adolescence, raging hormones, and worst of all: High School.
Although the series only lasted one season due to low ratings and controversy involving the show’s depiction of Gandhi, Clone High gathered a cult following with its satirical view on 90’s/early 2000’s era teen shows and its eccentric group of characters.
There’s no word yet on how many episodes will be ordered, when production on the reboot starts, or even if the reboot will either incorporate the original voice cast or a new one.
However, one thing is for certain: the reboot needs to use this as its theme song
