The UK independent jigsaw puzzle and board game company, Gibsons has reported a ‘rapid growth in international sales’ of around 90 per cent over the last 12 months, despite the continued pressures suffered by many in the current retail climate.
The firm – celebrating its 100th anniversary this year – spied the move to grow its international sales portfolio earlier this year, having witnessed a steady increase in overseas trade over the course of the last decade.
Gibsons capitalised on this growth with the hire of Alice Tournaire to the role of international sales manager.
“We felt that the time had come to re-evaluate the resource and effort going in to international sales, and to that end we decided to create a new, full time role that would b entirely committed to growing the brand overseas,” said Nicki Gumbrall, Gibsons sales director.
“We were delighted to welcome Alice into that role a year ago, and she has worked extremely hard over the last 12 months to build strong foundations with our export business, including representing Gibsons at the Hong Kong Gift Fair for the very first time.”
The move has seen Gibsons enter new markets such as Australia and China for the first time, contributing to the firm’s 90 per cent growth in international sales.
Tournaire added: “I am really thrilled to take part in this venture as Gibsons is an established brand that has built its reputation from a rich heritage. Our products offer a good mix of quality and character. They bring something different to the international jigsaw landscape, which is why we have such a strong and dedicated following.
“With fantastic new partners, our international presence is growing fast and we are confident this will carry on over the coming years.”
This is the latest bit of good news for Gibsons, who recently discovered that its MD, Kate Gibson had been shortlisted for the Employer of the Year in the 2019 Women Mean Business Awards.
Judges have been impressed by the exceptional quality of applicants and the high standard of entries this year, with shortlisted applicants now going forward to the next stage: a 20-minute interview with the independent judges at Carshalton College on Wednesday, July 17.
The winners of all the categories, along with the overall Businesswoman of the Year, will be exclusively revealed at a glittering awards ceremony in September.
