Heads Will Roll in ‘The Green Knight’ A24’s Artistic Arthurian Adaptation

Arthurian legend has long been a treasure trove of adaptable material, and thus has given way to decades of movies and TV shows. Now, A24 has dropped a trailer for their own adaptation The Green Knight.

Rather than retelling one of King Arthur’s timeless tales, director David Lowery spotlights another Knight of the Round Table and one of the best known Arthurian stories: “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.”

In this dark fantasy adaptation of the old chivalric romance, King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), embarks on a quest to confront the titular, axe-wielding giant, the Green Knight (Ralph Ineson).

The trailer boasts artful imagery and cinematography as well as fantastical powers at play, natural for such a setting and story. It will be quite interesting how this movie will handle the head-cutting challenge put forth in the original poem.

The Green Knight is scheduled to release on May 29, 2020.
