Long time The Simpsons fans have lamented the new Disney+ for changing the original 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9. The criticisms for this discussion all pointed to the cropping out of visual gags. While some believed Disney has done the right thing by making sure the show would be shown in today’s modern televisions, others believe Disney should change the aspect ratio back to its original standard. Well it seems like Disney has listened to those concerns and is planning on making some changes soon.

In a statement sent out by Disney, they have ensured the original format ratio will return for the classic animated show. Disney plans on making an additional version of the first 19 seasons. Here’s Disney Statement:

We presented ‘The Simpsons’ in 16:9 aspect ratio at launch in order to guarantee visual quality and consistency across all 30 seasons. Over time, Disney+ will roll out new features and additional viewing options. As part of this, in early 2020, Disney+ will make the first 19 seasons (and some episodes from Season 20) of ‘The Simpsons’ available in their original 4:3 aspect ratio, giving subscribers a choice of how they prefer to view the popular series.”

Isn’t funny how synergy works these days? Disney+ subscribers will have the option to switch to the original 4:3 aspect ratio for pre-2009 seasons starting next year.
